Can anyone explain customs fees on import parts? Sun, 22 August 2004 23:45 Go to previous message
Hi all, just wondering if someone knows about customs fees on import car parts.

I got some wheels from Japan (secondhand). They were 12,000yen. So around $150.

Now I got a $60 fee to pay to customs! That is 40% of the purchase price. I reckon that is a total joke! How can they charge that much.

I talked to customs and they just give you all these figures and crap and seem reluctant to explain it.

All I could gather was car parts, secondhand are 15%, then 10% gst. So I dont know how they got the 40%. They reckon sometimes they will charge an extra fee on the postage cost.

Man they hit you for every cent..

Anyway, anyone have some extra info they could shed so I can see if i'm being ripped off or not.

Thanks
Joel
