pitted block surface - repairable? Wed, 25 September 2002 10:23 Go to previous message
The next chapter in the story of fixing the damn head gasket came this afternoon, prepping the block for the reco'd head that I pick up tommorrow morning. The surface of the block directly beneath where the head gradually corroded and blew the HG is pitted a little. Not just a little spot, but a crescent shape about an inch long that follows the edge of the bore about 2mm back, so it's in a critical part of the combustion seal. It's not very deep, enough to see and feel but far less than a mm.

What now? Are blocks repairable, or is it scrap? Bear in mind that the block is still in the car attatched to everything...

Cheers..
