4AGE problems - help needed Please!!!

Ok guys,
Here's the problem, i have a 87 seca with the 100kw smallport engine in it, after driving the car for a little while it starts to "miss", becomes jolty through the rev range. i am unsure of what it can be because i've replaced the leads, dizzy cap and the rotor button.
The next thing on my list is to replace the spark plugs. Its got me stumped because it only does it sometimes, not all the time.
When this problem started there was a bit of water around the spark plugs because i washed the car, wasn't careful with the hose (bonnet scoop). After i got all the water out it was fine for a couple of weeks, then it started to "miss" at higher revs, now it has started doing it right through the rev range.
I have had a couple of mechanics look at it now, and no one can come to a conclusion and tell me what it is. So thats why i'm here for help.
If anyone has any ideas please let me know ASAP because its really starting to shit me.
