2jz into hilux. Thu, 28 October 2004 02:49 Go to previous message
Hi guys,

First post, newbie here etc, some of you might know me from performance forums, or autospeed etc.. where i posted as GSRman, i recognise a few names around here, i think dale has told me about this place before..

When i was looking around for info i came across this site and slylux's car, hella cool.

I'm after info/links/thoughts whatever.

I'm selling the SS, (if anyone wants one, let me know) current plan is to buy a >=1999 hilux 2wd tray or ute back, and slap a 2J in it.

I know a 1j is cheaper but i wish to be able to tow my race-car around (should it ever run) and i want to be able to pull it along the hyway without being on boost, so i think the extra displacement in a 2j will help.

Things i want
1. To be able to jump in and drive the thing to work everyday with new-ish car reliability.
2. To be able to drive distances in relative comfort.
3. Tow car trailer.
4. Not draw too much attention.
5. Do big smokey burnouts on occasion.
6. Auto.
7. Be faster than your average falcadore v8.
8. Chuck a load of wood in the back, etc.
9. My mrs has to be able to drive it when needed.
10. Engineered, rego'd insured.
11. air-con, heating, power steer should all work

Things i think i know.

1. The 2J should fit in the engine bay - ? (radiator will have to be moved)
2. Getting a front cut should supply me with everything i need?
3. The front cut will have to be a later model than the hilux?
4. A water-air intercooler will be an easier fit?
5. How much should i be paying for a front-cut?
6. Should i be getting a supra cut? or something else?
7. Is there many different variants of 2jgte around? if so, is 1 going to be an easier transplant than others?
8. Anyone know of anyone/where thats put a 1j/2j into a hilux?
9. Approximate cost? - I'm hoping to get some money back from the engine/box, i can do a fair bit of the work, but exhaust etc is going to be way beyond me, as is likely the wiring.
10. i should be able to buy wiring diagrams for the cut and the hilux straight from toyota?

Any help would be tops guys, thanks.

Cheers.
