7M head bolt retorque? Mon, 17 January 2005 08:23 Go to previous message
Well i've just finished a head gasket job on a 7M-GE, Very Happy
Aint she pretty? Laughing

I've torqued the bolts down to 72 ft/lbs (as this is the number i kept hearing from everyone).

Anyway, i'm wondering what is the go with retorquing the head?
I know its a good idea to wait till 1000-1500kms or so,

Some say to back off each bolt and retighten one by one, others say not to back it off as you introduce oil, water, whatever sorts of stuff into the thread that can mess up the torque readings (??).

What is the proper technique?
