Spring rate question Tue, 24 May 2005 05:57 Go to previous message
Howdy all.. Got a quick question.. In the RA28 i've got 275lbs/in springs up front and some lowered king springs in the rear.

The rear has always felt a bit soft with this setup, and proved to be at a recent Wakefield day.

Around hard corners seems a lot of weight is transfering to the rear and squats quite low.. This then seems to lift some weight off the inside front wheel to the point it looks close to being off the ground.

I always was planning on putting 180lbs/in springs in the rear keeping with the rear being 2/3rds the rate of the front that seems to work quite well.

Anyhows... decided to pull my finger out and contact king springs about getting some custom made rears, linear, 180lbs/in and to keep the ride height the same as their off the shelf items.

They came back telling me the standard ra28 lowered rear springs they sell are a progressive rate 180lbs/in! I could have sworn they feel more around the 100 mark.

Now they sure dont feel that firm.. But i'm wondering if its because they are progressive they feel so soft.

Can anyone comment if I changed from these progressive 180s to linear 180s if its going to feel firmer and the arse will sag less around hard corners?

Or am I just going to have to go for something firmer than 180? - no silly comments about 8kg/6kg springs I've driven with those before along some of the twisty roads I enjoy and the car just wants to bounce off the road its crap.

Cheers
Joel
