Time to start the new engine! Fri, 27 May 2005 01:47 Go to previous message
Hey all,

Bin a while - been building the chassis/suspension for the new racecar... gearbox arrived last week (renault UN5 - all aftermarket Albins gears) and its time to start designing the engine... what fun!

OK - we'll be starting with a 100kw smallport and going 60thou over & forgies softcut at 7900 and hardcut/redline at 8000.

Question 1 - We're thinking of going with longer rods and pistons with a higher gudgeon pin to keep longer dwell time at BDC (so the engine sucks more air) - does the Group A rods Ive heard mentioned accomplish this?

top end - port, polish, 3 way valve job, 300deg cam (not sure on lift yet - prob around the 400thou mark), adjustable cam gears etc.

Question 2 - Anyone recommend valve springs? or would stock do the job?

Induction will be 20v quads -

Question 3 - anyone know of an off the shelf supplier for the mani for 20v to 16v? If so whats the quality like?

It'll be cc'd flowed all the fun stuff! and built by a mate who works at Hume Performance.

I'll post up pics and info of the buildup as we go along - but it'll be a 5 month project while we get the cash together!

Meanwhile - any info on the q's would be hugely appreciated.

Cheers!
Riv.
