Fitting 4A -> W58 bellhousings from group buy. Sun, 10 July 2005 23:42
OK, I spent most of my weekend lying under my car fitting a new box and diff. I'm using the custom W58 bellhousing bought through the group buy on here recently behind a 4A in an AE86.

Since the slave cylinder swapped sides I used a new clutch slave. It was a Protek JB4130 (letters may be wrong, but the number is definitely 4130) off a 83-86 Hiace and a similar period liteace too. I had to space this out 12mm as I am using a 2S/W55 clutch fork. Using a MA61 clutch fork may work better.

I found that 2 of the big bellhousing bolts (3 and 9 o'clock) from the T50 were too short. A pair from a 2S/W55 worked. Or you could grind down the bellhousing 20mm.

And the box still has a bit of a lean on it. Mine only just clears the passenger side of the shifter hole in the cabin. With a GZ20 soarer shifter position (2nd from furthest back) I needed to cut 10mm out of the back of the shifter hole too. It also sits very close to the fuel and brake lines on the side of the tunnel which looks a bit scary though hasn't caused any problems

A custom gearbox crossmember was needed, and using the stock W58 rubber mount, the thing hangs pretty low. A bit higher than the exhaust and chassis rails so hopefully nothing to worry about.

Good luck with it, I may be able to post pics later in the week if anyone wants them.
