W57/58 check Sat, 06 August 2005 08:06 Go to previous message
Hi all.

I've just bought myself what I believe to be an alloy sandwich plate w58 box for my turbo vk project.

The box was in a vk previously, and so came with shifter, bellhousing, crossmember etc etc all ready to bolt into mine.

My question as to if it is a real w58, or in fact a w57 remains.

I've read all the info regarding most 58's having the steel plate, but found some details of 58's also having alloy plates.

I'm guessing the best way for me to check is to count the teeth on the 5th gear and see what the ratio is. Since the box is still together, what's the procedure for counting revolutions of the output shaft while fifth gear is engaged. How many output turns should I expect to see for one input turn etc.

Thanks in advance
