pc assisted engine analysing programs

Today's computer technology allows pretty interesting stunts to be pulled off. Not all technology is wasted on film industry to create phenomenal special effects.
I'm talking about computer assisted engine analysing programs. Hobbyist is able to program in his engine parameters and start tuning engine from thereon.
Isn't it quite fascinating to play for example with several different camshafts to see their effect on your particular engine? All this without the expense of actually buying the cam and installing it, and have it dynoed.
It gets more expensive if we alter cam timing while on a dyno.
All aspects of engine can be tried out. Inlet manifolds, exhaust manifolds, different turbo's (if applied), various cams, ,,,and so forth.
I used to be skeptical towards these pc programs. I used to think they are sheer BS.
Some of you folks may have heard of pretty sad effort called 'DeskTop Dyno 2000'-program.
The program I'm talking about actually really works.

Here is one quote of performance of this program when motor was later on dynoed, and data compared to computer's predictions:
"...From 4000 rpm to the 5250 max used the EA predictions were within +/- 1.4%. When the fact that many dyno's are only within 2% is considered this looks good..."
End quote from that site says:
"In round terms we can say from what we learned during our review of EA that for over 90% of the computations results are better than 2% accurate. As a result we are confident that for under $110 you will find Engine Analyzer to be a very useful, cost effective tool toward building a successful motor."
