ed_ma61 Forums Junkie Location: Lost in the K hole Registered: May 2002	Re: Alternative Medicine/My encounter with a gas bottle Fri, 30 September 2005 06:46 meh, most (~80%) 'pharmaceuticals' are based on naturally occuring chemicals that have been synthesised and perfected - the difference being they have had some element of clinical efficacy and safety trials before release (hence why the cost so goddamn much + ??? + profit) no-one says alt meds dont work, they do, but its not because theyre 'natural' its because they contain some active chemical - just like off the shelf drugs. its just a bit hit and miss as to exactly whats in what, how much, and exaclty what it is and where/how/why it works. and as a population, aust spends over 4x on 'alt meds' as they do on prescription drugs... dont tell me blackmores and the like isnt raking in the cash too people generally dont like to be told 'theres not mush we can offer you' - they like to feel in control, and actively doing something about what they feel is wrong with them - hence theyll pay for stuff they think might work in the belief they are being proactive - that psychological effect alone can often be beneficial... ed [Report message to a moderator]
